* Swimmers are expected to report to the pool deck 15 minutes before the assigned training time.

Mission

The mission of our Gold training group is to foster an environment that focuses on the development of top swimmers in their age-groups. These swimmers will work to achieve qualifying standards commensurate with their developmental levels.

Swimmers will learn to have a stronger grasp of stroke mechanics and will be introduced to high level swim topics such as race strategy, heart rate training and meet best practices.

Goals

  • On board an expert level of stroke technique, including all strokes, underwater applications, starts and transitions.
  • Achieve MI State Qualifying Standards and consistently place in the top 16 at MI State meets.

  • Additional Goal setting related to each athlete’s individualized path.

  • Develop athletes who are wholly committed to their athletic life, inside and outside of the pool.

  • MI State SC and LC Championships

  • Michigan Open (Spring)

  • SST Fall Classic

Expectations

  • Required to attend ALL training sessions. Attendance below the minimal seasonal average of 75%, will be grounds reassignment at the Head Coach’s discretion.

  • Swimmers are expected to take responsibility for their swimming; being on time and prepared with full equipment kit. Swimmers should communicate changes in their schedule directly with the Lead Group Coach.

  • Participation in all scheduled competitions is required for continued membership in this group. Swimmers are expected to attend and compete in all events as chosen by the Lead Group Coach.

Advancement Criteria

In order to advance to the Gold group athletes must demonstrate the ability and desire to:

  • At least 11 years of age at that season’s championship competition and not yet in High School.

  • Attend 75% of the groups practices

  • Has the ability to read, understand, and follow more complex intervals

  • Can consistently complete a proper streamline until their hips are under the Backstroke flags 

  • Can consistently complete the following training sets

    • 8x100 @ 1:45 Freestyle

    • 6x100 @ 2:10 Kick

    • 4x100 @ 2:00 IM

    • 2 of the following 3 sets

      • 6x50 @ 1:10 Butterfly 

      • 8x50 @ 1:00 Backstroke

      • 8x50 @ 1:05 Breaststroke

 

PLEASE NOTE: The above listing should only serve as a rough criterion for selection to this group. Placement in this group is at the discretion of the Lead Group Coach and the Head Coach.
