Senior

 

* Swimmers are expected to report to the pool deck 15 minutes before the assigned training time.

Mission

The mission of our Senior training program is to develop our top-tier athletes into nationally recognized student-athletes. The dedication, work ethic, time management and goal setting skills learned in this group aim to develop life skills essential for future success in all areas of life.

Swimmers in this group should envision themselves as swimmers at the next level upon graduation. Through their experience in this group, SST Senior swimmers will develop strong opportunities to achieve athletic scholarship at the University level.

SST senior swimmers will have an opportunity to begin specificity training around their focus events and personal needs. 

Goals

  • Consistently develop swimmers who are competing at the Sectional and National Level

  • Achieve swimming standards consistently ranked in the USA Swimming top-50 national individual event ranking

  • Create “Students of the Sport”, with a deep understanding of the physiological and bio-mechanical mechanisms that contribute to elite performance.

  • Develop infrastructure and tools for athletes looking to compete at the next level.

  • Develop athletes who actively take part in a healthy lifestyle, including but not limited to: mental training, nutrition education and recovery implementation.

  • Create passionate, loyal, and empowered leaders of SST.

Target Meets

  • Spring National Travel Meet TBD on annual basis (Spring)

  • USA Futures and Jr. Nationals (Winter + Summer)

  • SST Fall Classic (November)

Expectations

  • Required to attend ALL training sessions. Attendance below the minimal seasonal average of 80%, will be grounds for reassignment at the Head Coach’s discretion.

  • Near or achieved Sectional Time Standards

  • Participation in all scheduled competitions is required for continued membership in this group. Swimmers are expected to attend and compete in all events as chosen by the Lead Group Coach

  • Swimmers are mature and responsible for their own development (in partnership with the Head Coach). Swimmers are responsible for communicating their changes in schedule with their coach.

Advancement Criteria

 

In order to advance to the Senior group athletes must demonstrate the ability and desire to:

  • Attend at least 80% of the groups practices
  • Consistently complete the following training sets
    • 15x100 @ 1:20 Freestyle
    • 10x100 @ 1:45 Kick
    • 2400 yards in 30 Minutes
    • 4x400 @ 6:00 IM
    • 2 of the following 3 sets
      • 6x100 @ 1:45 Butterfly
      • 10x100 @ 1:30 Backstroke
      • 10x100 @ 1:45 Breaststroke

 

PLEASE NOTE: The above listing should only serve as a rough criterion for selection to this group. Placement in this group is at the discretion of the Lead Group Coach and the Head Coach.
