Steel
Mission
The Steel group is designed for 12 & Over swimmers to enhance their swimming skills, build fitness, and progress toward advanced training levels. This group bridges the gap between age-group and higher-level training, focusing on stroke mechanics and race readiness.
Goals
- Refine technique in all strokes, starts, turns, and underwater phases.
- Build race strategies and achieve Regional Standards.
- Prepare swimmers for Platinum-level training.

Expectations
- Attendance: Swimmers are strongly recommended to maintain a minimum of 70% attendance to ensure steady progress.
- Preparedness: Swimmers must arrive on time and come prepared with all required equipment. Any schedule changes should be communicated directly with the Lead Coach.
- Meet Participation: Swimmers must compete in SST-hosted meets and participate in events selected by the Lead Coach.
Advancement Criteria
To qualify for the Steel Group, swimmers must meet the following criteria:
Steel 1:
- Be 12 years old or older.
- Consistently demonstrate proper streamline technique.
- Be legal in all four strokes and complete the following:
- All four 50s (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) with legal technique.
- A legal 100 IM.
Steel 2:
- Be at least 12 years old.
- Demonstrate consistent technique and efficiency in all four strokes.
- Show proficiency in race strategies, turns, and underwater work.
- Consistently complete the following test sets:
- 8 x 100 Freestyle @ 1:40
- 6 x 100 Kick @ 2:00
- 4x 100 IM @ 1:50
