Week Ahead March 17-23

Attached is this week's Week Ahead. Please note there will be NO practice Tuesday March, 18 due to a home Water polo game. 
 
Championship Reminders -  (The entire informational email is copied and pasted below if you would like to review it.) 
  • There are still several volunteer positions that need to be filled for this meet! Please be reminded, each family is responsible for filling 2 volunteer positions throughout the season. If the positions are not filled I will have to assign people who have not fulfilled their commitment. Please log in and sign up ASAP!
  • We will be doing a team picture on Friday at 6:30 pm Parents please bring your cameras. 
  • We will be marking the 10 & under swimmers hands Friday at practice as well. We will also need some parents to help with this. 
  • SMSL Winter Championships will be held at Milan High School,   Milan High School, 200 Big Red Dr, Milan, MI 48160

8 & Under: Arrive by 7:15 AM, Warm ups 7:30AM, Meet start 8:30AM

9-10: Arrive by 11:45 AM, Warm ups Noon, Meet start 1:00 PM

Just a reminder, attendance at this meet is extremely important! Numbers make a huge difference and everyone can contribute in some way. As with all SMSL meets we assume swimmers will attend.  If your swimmer(s) will be unable to attend the meet please sign out on your team account ASAP. A great deal of time and effort goes into planning the line up for this meet so it is important to know who will be there and who will not. We will be placing the swimmers in the the events they will preform and place the best for the TEAM.  All the teams in the league are required to provide meet workers for the championship meet. Friday before the meet will be a very important practice to attend, please make every effort! We will be having our team picture at 6:30 pm on Friday, March 21st at the pool. Parents please bring your cameras to get your team photo, we will not have a formal photographer. Also on Friday, in an effort to save time on Saturday, we will pre-mark all the 10 & under swimmers hands for the next day. If some parents would like to help out with this as well that would be awesome.

What are Championships? 

The Super Bowl of SMSL swimming! This is the meet that the athletes have worked all season for and it is a lot of fun!  We strongly encourage everyone to participate. Every member of this team has an important role and makes a contribution!

 

Each age group swims against all the other age groups in the league. For example all of our 8 & unders will compete with all the other 8 & under swimmers in SMSL. The meet includes all the events that were swam in the dual meets throughout the season.  Each swimmer is allowed to swim up to four events at least one of which must be a relay. 

 

Scoring:

  • Four swimmers from each team can score in each individual event
  • Two relays from each team are allowed to score in each relay event
  • Scores are kept throughout each age group with all scores added together to determine how we finish as a team.
  • The meet would not be the same without maximum participation.  Numbers do make a difference!
